The Luxury Accessory World and its impact on Emerging Adults in the U.S.

The idea that a woman would spend her last to achieve wealth is a concern and is a wonderful topic to find out where it stems from. The social impact of the luxury accessory industry has become the latest trend in that women are focusing more on the accessories than on the apparel. It is easier to spot a luxury brand from a distance than figure out what brand of slacks a woman is wearing.

EMERGING ADULTS
Emerging adulthood consists of ages 17-28. This is the time in an emerging adult’s life where they are searching for their identity, balancing adult roles, freedom, and social responsibilities. This is the time where the adult are own their on and the duties associated with adulthood falls solely with them. This age group is Generation Y. Retailers appeal to them by creating perceptive marketing tools and most are trendsetters

For the Emerging adult, there is a need to socialize. As a person ages, the social scene is more prevalent in their relationships as they rely on their peers for approval for certain issues. There is always to desire to become apart of the trends

An emerging adult’s transition into adulthood also constitutes employment. During the ages from birth to up to age 17 that would be considered the school experience, where the child does not have to worry about money (most don’t) and juggling work and school. By age 16-17, this begins the part-time working at retail stores and fast food establishments.

PERCEPTION OF VALUE BY OTHERS
Designer of Prada believe women should not focus on the accessory but on the apparel as wearing, a garment requires more thought and shows the wearer as daring. The accessory industry is lucrative because most of the time, the cost of the product is not as expensive as the clothing.
The trend today is dressing casual and spending less on the apparel and spending more on the accessories. High in fashion only represent 10% of America’s $80 billion industry. The large stores are now acquiring name brand accessory designers such as Kate Spade, by Neiman Marcus Group for $33 million. Her company designs handbags as well as other accessories .

SOCIAL CLASS
To understand why consumers love the luxury accessories, you have to understand the social structure. There is the Upper-upper, which total about 1%, Lower-Upper (2%), and the Upper-Middle-(12%). The upper-upper’s income is inherited wealth, trust funds, and real estate. Their household income is over $200,000.00 with total assets being $3 million and more. The Lower-Upper have attained wealth through their profession or industry. Their income ranges from $1000, 000 to $199,999 with their assets at $ 1 million. The upper-middle includes professionals, corporate executives, and individuals who are self-employed. Their household income is from $75,000-$99,999 with assets at $665,000.00.
Luxury Accessories are products that only about 5% of American households are able afford, but not limited to purchasing. There are less upper-upper people than upper-lower and middle class. Many lower classes purchase luxury accessories as well. There is a large growth of luxury accessory purchases from the upper middle and middle classes today. This is because everyone wants to feel a sense of wealth whether their assets say they fit into the luxury social class or not. This brings out a point, how far will consumers go just to appear to fit into the luxury social class ?

PERCEIVED SOCIAL VALUES
With the accessory industry being a hot industry now, the idea of if I cannot afford to buy it, I can rent it has been born. The company BagBorrowSteal.com is the rave of the online retailer world. It is a online company that lends luxury accessories to women. The items include handbags, jewelry, belts, sunglasses, and more. Customers can actually rent the items such as a Louis Vuitton Palermo PM Tote for as low as $49.00 per week or $145.00 a month for members and $75.00 a week or $191 a month for non-members.
The company began in 2004 and since has over 250,000 customers offering them over 3,000 luxury accessories to choose from with over 100 designers. Such designers are Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Fendi, Tory Burch, and more (PR Newswire Association). Even though the person is carrying the bag, they did not buy the bag and they have to return it. The company does offer customers the opportunity to purchase a luxury bag.
There is a reason consumers purchase certain products, according to Paula Danziger, there are 14 justifiers as to the purchase of products.

Britney is usually the one causing a underwear-less scandal these days, but this week it was Ciara who had her (removed-by-airbrushing) panties in a knot, so to speak. Ciara understandably expressed outrage over the fact that the editors at Vibe magazine allegedly digitally underdressed her without her consent. The R&B starlet claims she posed for the mag's October cover photo with her clothes on, but that an intrepid Photoshopper stripped her down so that she appears to be nude in the published pic. Now sources say Ciara is taking Vibe to court. Wow, the Vibe folks should have known better than to mess with Ciara. Didn't they listen to her when she said her goodies stay in the jar?

Even though she didm't agree to do it, I have to say that I thought it was very tasteful...But didn't Vibe do the same thing to Toni Braxton a while back?

Knockoffs, who wears them

There was a time, couture was for the rich and that was how the designers desired it to be. We are living in a time that is fast and busy and the consumer does not want to pay a large amount for much of anything.

There is a trend in the fashion world that can produce garments seen on the red carpet and by celebrities and make them available to the masses in little or no time thus creating, knockoffs.

Knocking off is where a company takes an expensive piece and makes it affordable to the masses. By doing this, fabric becomes less expensive and sometimes there is little or no detailing. Is this ok to do? This is a large industry, but what about the designer and their creative designs, research, sewing, and drafting to bring the sketch on paper a finish garment. Not to mention their creative spirit. What happen to being creative and producing garments that is so different that only a few people will wear it? Now it seems as though that is being forsaken with knockoffs and everyone sees their self as they walk down the street or walk to their class. Image is everything and dressing nice is a large part of self-esteem. Knockoff garments are great for saving money, but will the garment endure and last for seasons to come? Maybe that is how the industry wants it to be, fast life, inexpensive clothes, therefore forcing the consumer to spend more money buying knockoffs than they would expensive pieces.

The idea that a consumer can purchase a garment worn my famous singer or actress is incredible. This is the chance for them to be just like their idol for less, but if it is less will it last?

The R&B star is FREE after 6 long years. He was found innocent when the jury finally reached their verdict. Fans outside the courthouse were screaming & shouting as he stepped into his car. I'm still shocked as hell over the verdict; not so much because I think he is guilty (or innocent either, for that matter), but because the Prosecution IMO - and as I'm sure many who followed the trial will agree - argued a very compelling case.

Rikers Island Jail is getting their fair share of stars and publicity thanks to female rappers Foxy Brown and Remy Ma. While Foxy has served her time at the NY jail for probation violation, Remy is just beginning!
The state Supreme Court sentence was handed down giving Remy 8 years in jail for assault, weapon possession, and attempted coercion.
And as if that wasn't enough bad news, Riker correctional officers indicated that they had called off her wedding weekend at the jail with rapper Papoose, when the groom showed up with what appeared to be a handcuff key. (just shaking my head)

This is really sad!!! but carma is a bitch...Remy is my girl but she sat on bet a year ago and went in on Lil Kim for what she did now the tables have turned.

Lack of promotion? In my opion!!!! sprung to mind upon being informed that Tiffany Evans shifted an embarrassing 4, 700 copies of her debut album last week. The 15 year old's first week showing landed her at #134 on the Billboard 200.

Its such a shame to see GREAT talent fare so badly. This really goes to show that the industry is on unstable ground at the moment. I have to say this came as such a shock to me.. I for one have not been able to stop bumping this cd. Its amazing and the girl has range, that of mariah. Please check out this cd and tell us wat you think. I will be trying to post this asap.

It has been said by Vouge that ROBIN ANTIN's Pussycat Dolls show closed fashion week with a bang. The massive production - part fashion show, part concert - brought the LA to LA Fashion Week.

Antin launched her line of lingerie with the support of a star studded crowd that brought more testosterone to the front row than your run-of-the-mill runway show. P Diddy, Dr Dre and Quincy Jones all quietly smirked as the models and dancers pawed their way down the catwalk in leather mini-skirts and g-strings, and the Dolls performed five of their hit songs. I can't say that I'm suprised by this. The Pussycat Dolls and there clothes has always given men and young boys something to blush about. The collection inspirations were straight out of pop culture. A mixture of vintage pin-up girl glamour and punk rock boldness were evident in all the pieces, which must have made even the most seasoned models blush.The spectacle, the celebrity, and the sexiness might have been off-putting to the die-hard fashion folk, yet this energised crowd left Fashion Week behind with their tongues still hanging - as they wait for the Pussycat Doll brand to take over the world.

Ciara has laid down new vocals for a remix to Janet's 'Feedback', as well as Missy Elliott's 'Ching-A-Ling'. Despite Janet not recording new vocals for this (possibly official) remix, Ciara has injected a new life into this already-storming track. Ciara's voice, delivery, everything fits the song really well. Ciara has already been bringing her A game this past year but she has knocked these two tracks out of the box. As with the 'Feedback' remix, it's Ciara's delivery that stands out on Missy's 'Ching-A-Ling' remix - which also features Jay-Z. Its been a while since we have heard from missy but im glad to here some new material from her. These kinda have me thirsty for what they (Missy & Ciara) both will be serving up on their new albums.

For his final show before retirement, Valentino showed an amazing collection of signature looks. His dresses consistently blow me away and this show was, of course, no exception. Valentino incorporated many “girly” elements into the looks - lace, fringe, beading, and floral. All the looks for 2008. Valentino is and always will be one of americas greates designers.I’m sure he will be sorely missed in the fashion community. Ths artical goes out to a great designer friend at Reign Couture.

Versace’s collection of couture gowns blew me away as always. I literally found myself staring at the dresses in awe - the gorgeous colors, incredible draping and perfect shapes were just impeccable in my opinion. While Versace does a black dress very well, my two favorite designs below were the Pink and orange dresses. The detailing that she puts into the gowns are just amazing. I must say i have been inspired!!!! The bright colors look amazing on such perfectly designed gowns. This was one of my favorite collections of the whole week.

Janet To Perform At The Grammy's

It has been confirmed that pop superstar Janet Jackson will be performing at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards on February 10th. Renown dancer Blake McGrath, who is part of Janet's team, revealed the news during an interview with MTV Canada, further stating that Janet is currently in rehearsals for the big show. {Source}

Janet joins the Grammy performer line-up which includes Beyonce and the Foo Fighters.

This one should be interesting;Lets just hope that she can regain her STAR Power this year, if Janet knocks this one out of the park...her 'comeback' will be cemented.

America’s Next Top.. Nope! Looks like Tyra Banks has some competition. Bravo’s thrown their hat in the model making biz.

Bravo is on the hunt for the next great supermodels with hosts Niki Taylor and Tyson Beckford. It begins by unveiling the top 24 beautiful and talented men and women who will compete for a spot on the new reality competition series "Make Me A Supermodel".

My all time fav models would be Tyr Banks, Nikki Taylor and the New Chanel Milan. Pair her up with a hottie like Tyson and I’m in.

Here are the photos from Victoria Beckham’s much-anticipated ad campaign for Marc Jacobs Spring 2008. When I first heard she was going to do ads for Marc, I was Estatic about it, personally I love her and her style, and I think the ads came out funny and interesting, although I’m not sure about the one where she’s coming out of the box… Posh has truley made her mark in the fashion world and I personally feel that she is a true fashion Icon in the making. The House of Fever opened the fashion show with ANTM’s Nik Pace and closed the male
segment with Jonathan Plummer.
Jonathan Plummer was married to the famed author Terry McMillan for six-years before they separated after discovering Jonathan’s sexuality. He told his story exclusively to Good Morning America in July of 2005. Since then he has done numerous appearances in articles and news telling his story, including the Oprah Winfrey Show where he and McMillan appeared together.

Jonathan’s first novel BALANCING ACT was published in September 2007. Plummer delivers a sexy and satisfying novel as deliciously racy as the life he lived. BALANCING ACT Justin Blakeman is living an ordinary life in Jamaica, when vacationing Tasha Reynolds spots him selling sugar cane on the street.

We returned to the fashion world with hot new pieces from the F.E.M. and P.U.N.C. jet setter collections. On September 1st House of Fever showcased a few samples from both collections at the launch party and fashion show for Burst Entertainment and Peach’s Boutique.

historic Sheraton Colony Square Hotel in Downtown Atlanta. Hosting the show this year and wearing a House of Fever original from the F.E.M.
collection was none other than America’s Next Top Model, Nik.

A Lil’ About Nik...Erika "Nik" Pace was born on August 24, 1984 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was a student at Bradley Tech High School, but moved to Atlanta, Georgia when she was in her third year. Prior to her participation on America's Next Top Model, Cycle 5, Nik was working as an office coordinator and was under the care of Elite Model Management. She is half-Italian and half-African-American. Nik is fond of Barbie dolls and is most known for her bubble-eyes. After her appearance on the show, Nik received a contract from Fusion Model Management in New York. She has graced the pages of ElleGirl Magazine, US Weekly Magazine, Complex Magazine, VIBE Magazine, Essence Magazine, , and appeared on the cover of MetroPop Magazine. She has also modeled for VIGOSS U.S.A Jeans, Snuggle and L'OrÃ©al. Her runway projects include Fashion Institute of Technology 2006, LIM 2006, Gharani Strok Fall 2005, and Tamara Pogosian Spring/Summer 2007.

Even though it’s January, and spring seems really far away, it’s not too early to start planning for spring fashion. Knowing what the trends will be ahead of time will help you make smart purchases now and save some money by picking up key items before the trend hits.
One key factor in predicting fashion trends is color. Each season there are a few key colors that come into fashion, and Pantone, Inc. is the authority on predicting which colors will be next.
According to Pantone’s Spring 2008 Fashion Color Report, spring ‘08 fashion will be characterized by “stabilizing neutrals combined with pops of brighter colors to create unique, distinctive looks.”
